Thurman, John Charles (c. 1939-)

John Thurman was an undergraduate in the Chemistry Department of the then Loughborough University of Technology from 1960-1964, including a year's sandwich course placement at The National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Teddington. He graduated with a 'first' in his B Tech in 1964 and was President of the student Chemical Society, during the academic year 1963-1964. His first journal article (Chemistry and Industry, 20/05/1964) was published during his time at NCL.

John Thurman began a PhD at Loughborough, supervised by Dr David Bigley, but moved to the new University of Kent at Canterbury in 1965 when Dr Bigley took up a position of Lecturer there. He completed his PhD in 1967, worked as a research Chemist with Pfizer Ltd, before working for over 30 years as a careers adviser at the University of East Anglia. He was the author of several books and articles on Graduate Employment. His last research publication was on dementia, in 2020, as a result of voluntary work with the UEA Medical School.
