These papers and photographs cover the lived experience of Ronald Roberts as a student at Loughborough College at the time of its partnership with University College Nottingham to create the East Midlands Training College, in the 1930s. He followed the two-year course for teachers of handicraft from 1930 to 1932. Material cover photographs of fellow students the College, and handicraft work, results of 1932 final examinations and an etching of the "mill" in the College buildings on Ashby Road. Although most contents were created in the early 1930s, these are 1980-1993 copies. Most people and keys are given.

In 1932-1933 a scheme to build an athletics stadium and sports pavilion for Loughborough College was initiated. Civil Engineering students were given the design project for their term's work and the College union offered a prize for the chosen design. The design of A J 'Jeph' Wallis was the winner. Much of the levelling of the site and initial construction was undertaken by students. The Stadium and Pavilion were formally opened on 1st June 1937 by Lord Aberdare, Chairman of the National Advisory Council for Physical Training and Recreation.
