In his own words, Gordon H Bell received professional training at Cambridge Institute of Education, the University of London and the Centre for Applied Research in Education, University of East Anglia.
After teaching in primary and secondary schools he subsequently held research and administrative posts in teacher training and higher education and was appointed Professor of Education in 1988.
He has published extensively on arts education, internationalisation of the curriculum, citizenship education, and action research
His interests in school development have included projects and consultancies for clients both nationally and internationally including the Commission of the European Communities and Ministries of Education in Germany, Italy and Portugal.
He participated in the Summer School at Loughborough Training College in July-August 1960. This experience laid the foundations for introducing Pottery in two schools where he was Head of the Art Department (1962-1972 and building a collection of Studio Pottery recently donated to the University of Cambridge (Ref: The Bell Collection at Clare Hall)
